The Perfect Summer Beat

by May 8, 2019Makeup0 comments

Summer is right around the corner and there’s nothing worse than having on a full face and worrying that it will start dripping down your face while enjoying drinks at a rooftop day party. Well, it is absolutely possible to have a flawless beat in the summer that feels light and lasts until the last call. Here are some tips for a fabulous summer look and a list of a few of my favorite items. Full disclosure, there’s a lot of Fenty Beauty products because Rihanna just gets it!

Foundation

You have the option to skip this step if you want a really light beat but if you’re like me and like full coverage, then you may like this foundation. My recommendation for the perfect lightweight foundation for the summertime is the Pro Filter Soft Matte Longwear  Foundation by Fenty Beauty. It’s matte and great for the oily girls, provides buildable coverage, and it feels super lightweight on the skin.

Concealer

I love concealer because it is a multi-use product. It is great especially in the hot summer heat. I suggest using it to spot conceal any dark spots or blemishes and to conceal under the eyes. It’s always good to find a shade that is closest to your skin tone. But If you are looking for a natural highlight, use a shade one shade lighter than your skin. My suggestion for a great summertime concealer is the Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Instant Retouch Concealer

Loose Powder

There are levels to the loose powder game! For a light natural beat, you do not need to worry about all the “baking” or taking extra steps to have a complete look. Use a smaller tapered fluffy brush, dip it lightly into the loose power, and gently tap the powder under your eyes where you applied concealer and all over your face. Gently swipe any extra product away with a fluffy powder brush. For oily skin, use a damp Beauty Blender and press the powder into the skin. Then use a fluffy powder brush to dust away any extra powder. I have listed two powders. One translucent and one with some color.
Dermablend Setting Powder in the color “Original” – It’s white, but I promise it is not ashy and there is no flashback.

Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Baking and Setting Powder – I find that the shades “Blondie” and “Kunafa” are very brown girl friendly.

Bronzer

Especially during the summertime, a full contour is not necessary all the time. I love bronzer because it brings just the right amount of shade and depth to the face, if it’s placed properly and the correct shade. Apply your bronzer as if you are drawing a 3 on the outer perimeter of the face. Use a light hand and build the product depending on your personal preference. I suggest using a large fluffy brush and keep in mind that placement is everything.  Here are 2 recommendations for bronzers that include both matte and powder products.

My recommendation for a good summertime bronzer is the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer. This product is matte and you can build it to your desired coverage.

Black Radiance Pressed Powder – Yes, it’s a pressed powder. However, the undertones make it a gorgeous matte bronzer, it is inexpensive, and can give you a darker shade for the days you may want to contour.

Blush

I suggest a nice blush to brighten up and bring some life to your face. However, you can skip this step if the bronzer gives you the look you want. I would suggest Milani Baked Blush. This product is gorgeous, super affordable, and has the perfect natural glowing finish

Highlight

Also not necessary but it does add a little something to this summer look. Apply this with a small tapered brush to the highest point of your cheeks, slightly above the arch of your brow, the bridge of your nose, cupids bow, and a little on the chin. Please DO NOT go overboard. If you do, just use a Beauty Blender or your powder brush to tone it down. I suggest the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter. The shade “Topaz” is gorgeous on brown girls but there is also a new shade called “Chocolate Geode” that also looks stunning.

Setting Spray

Setting spray provides a nice finish and helps to melt all the products, especially powders, into the skin. If you choose to wear mascara, you should apply it after this step or apply it before and wait for it to dry completely before applying setting spray. I would suggest Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray. Its light and weightless while providing the coverage you need for a long-lasting look.
